Pixiecutfash’s Top 5 Natural Hair Products – Holy Grails

My hair texture some would call Nappy, Kinky, Coily, Tightly Curled, Shrunken, all of the above!  And guess what…I LOVE IT!!!  It’s truly all of those things and then some. This is my 4th year of not having a relaxer, and my 3rd year following my big chop.  I have never loved a state of my hair more, other than my iconic Pixie Cut!

People always ask me how did I figure out what products worked for my hair type.  The truthful answer was that it’s trial and error.  I can’t even imagine how much money I’ve spent through the years trying to figure out what works.  I’ve watched countless hours of Youtube, read more hours on forums, and pinned thousands of products and photos, but nothing worked like trying out products.

With all of that I bring to you my current Top 5, my current Holy Grail Goat products that are working well for me right now.

I’m Back — 2019

I haven’t posted here since last February.  I’ve contemplated many times posting, but never did.  Why?  I guess I didn’t know how to get started again.  That’s strange really, I mean so much has happened in the last 6.5 years, and this blog would have been a great outlet to keep life sorted out.  Nevertheless I read others blogs, grew a great appreciation and love for watching others’ vlogs on Youtube, and fell even more in love with Instagram and Pinterest!

Well in 2019, I have defined goals that are must hits, and getting back to writing is one of them.  Also getting comfortable with posting these posts so others can see them is another must hit!

Subscribe here…you don’t want miss everything that is to come.  We’ll start the year with some best/worst product posts for natural hair and beauty.  We will also talk about becoming an entrepreneur and the steps to success as me and my friend step out on our first business endeavor together.  And we’ll end the month discussing what planner style best works for a person.  If you don’t want to miss it…you have to follow!

2018 Natural Product Haul Series: Vol 1, Soultanicals

So, my friend who gets me in retail trouble by finding all sorts of deals at various stores, called me about 2 weeks ago saying Target had haircare products on clearance.  So I like a great friend proceeded to go to 3 different Target stores to see what I could find.   The items in this series were purchased during that shopping trip.  First up, we’ll take a look at the items that I found from the Soultanicals brand.

I found 3 products that interested me, some I had seen on a few of my fave Youtuber’s videos, so I was excited to find them on deep clearance.

I’ve used all three products on my hair, which is mostly 4b, but has some 4c areas, and my son’s hair, which is definitely 4c.  My reviews on this blog will always give you reviews from both point of views.   So let’s take a deep dive into the three finds from Soultanicals.

  1. Soultanicals Knot Sauce Coil Detangler-it has Blue Malva, Broccolli Seed Oil, and Coconut Nectar. The Knot Sauce claims to melt away tangles, and can be used as a Conditioner or a Moisturizing Leave In.  I’ve seen people rinse it out, or use it as a prepoo.  We used it as a leave in.  The scent is awesome, it seems to be a light but fruity scent, not overpowering.  The consistency is thick and creamy, but it does penetrate both my hair and my son’s hair.  I used a small amount on each section of hair before it was two strand twisted on both of our hair. The product has no hold, so it didn’t impact the styler that I used later.  I would definitely buy it again, as it did what it said it would, it knocked those tangles out!

  1. Soultanicals Hair Sorrell Knappylicious Kink Drink– contains Hibiscus, Irish Moss, and Agave. Basically, this is a curl refresher, or a leave in moisturizing spray.  I love leave in conditioners in the spray form, and especially with the type of nozzle that this has.  It would be perfect for waking up an old wash and go, or retwisting your day’s old twistout.  Again I was blown away at the moisture that this provided, and once again it does what it says.  Love it.

  1. Soultanicals Can’t Believe It’s Knot Butta– with Coconut Milk and Jamaican Black Castor Oil. This product is deemed to be a hair butter, moisturizer, but states its best used as a cream styler.  I have used it as both.  It moisturizes for days, and it provides a light hold to twists/braids/coils, and gives great definition.  A little goes a long way so this small jar should last a while!

Soultanicals is a true natural ingredient company, all of the products that I’ve purchased are full of natural oils and ingredients.  So if you are into truly natural products, this one should be on your list.

Back Again.

This time for good.  Update:  I’ve been growing my hair out for about a year now, and have been seeing great results.  I’ll post my regimen later.  I also got highlights in July and those  have grown out nicely.  I’m experiencing my first “setback” in a while,  as I’m hanging some breakage in my sensitive area, my hairline!  I bought some new products yesterday.

I say new but two of them I started my hair journey with many years ago.

image

ORS Replenishing CON and Silicon Mix(Dominican).  I love the smell of both and they both provide what I need moisture and shine(Silicon Mix) and light protein(ORS).  I also bought another Dominican product for additional protein(my stylist recommended protein).  Hadn’t tried this one but I have it in my hair now.

I’ll review in the coming days.

It’s funny that I started my journey in 2006 with some of these and I’m full circle back at them.   I’m hoping they may work as I have more hair than ive had in over 4 years?

I am 12 weeks post relaxer and will be 15 weeks before I get a touch up.   I’ll be protective styling.  Today it will be french braids.   These edges tho!

Follow me on Instagram @pixiecutfash for more….and updates are coming!

DIY Clip In Extensions

My friends daughter did clip in extensions that she made.  After seeing her results I figured I could do the same.  I watched a few videos on YouTube like the one here:

Afterwards I followed the steps and made my own.  I washed.and.conditioned my hair.  I used these products as leave ins:

Elasta  QP’s leave in moisturizing.spray, Chi Keratin Mist, and Redken Smooth Down Heat Glide(heat protectant).

Next, I part my hair and clip in my pieces.  The end result:

Getting a Bob…

So my hair appointment will be on Thursday.  If you have followed my inconsistent posts, my goal was to grow out my pixie cut.  I was hoping to be at full bob by Jan 2013.  I’ll be getting my bob on Thursday!!!  Can’t believe I made it.

I’ve been letting my hair grow out without shaping since April 2012.  Mostly I’ve been protective styling with buns, braidouts, and most recently clip in extensions, more on this DIY later.

I’ve posted some pics below of my before hair, and I’ll update the blog with the reshape once it’s complete.

Enjoy.
